Advice for transitioning into privacy law? Been in employment lit for my first 3 yrs and no matter what have not been able to get a privacy position. CA based, got my U.S. CIPP cert, great academics, but everyone wants the elusive prior experience.

- is a LLM in the area worth it?
- does anyone care about CIPP?
- is 3 yrs too long to make a change?
- could I transition to in-house in a new field? I’m so burnt out from billable hours and firm life but I don’t want to give up on this career

What are realistic expectations for 3rd Year Analyst / Direct Promote Associate bonus range at a BB? Note that at MS, 2nd year bonuses in my group last year were 90-115K, while MBA associates received a pro-rated 90K stub (~40k). An offer HSBC is in pipeline ( 28 fixed as per Recruitment consultant). Position offered is Senior consultant specialist.

Took a role out of desperation and it was a big mistake. The firm was toxic and crazy revolving door. After only a few months I was fired "for cause" even though no cause was actually given. Is this the end of my career?

I’m a third year interested in retooling from lit to general corp, but they prefer someone with 3+ years of corporate experience. They’re also looking for an M&A with 1+ years, so it may be easier to aim for that, but I’ve heard horror stories re WLB for M&A. What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? I have a promising interview at a relatively large law firm in my area (+100 attorneys) next week. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.
