First off - congrats on the new offer!
A few things to consider here:
1) If you’re investing in a 401k, have you stayed long enough to have the company match fully vested?
2) Are you excited about the work you’re currently doing? Do you like your team members, or are there recurring issues that are stunting your growth?
3) Are you still learning at your current company? Or has it become monotonous and you fee you need to expand more?
I think points 2 and 3 are the most important to focus on. I’ve regretted leaving companies for what sounded like a more exciting opportunity elsewhere. The pay was significantly better, but I lost a lot of my confidence when I had to build up my reputation again at another company, as well as learning brand new, confusing processes.
Try to think about what you really want, and if you’re willing to risk giving up job security and respect you’ve gained in your time at your current spot.
Good luck! You’re in an awesome position that two companies currently want you.
Thank you! When I had applied for this position, it was because I was feeling limited in my role at the time and was bored from working on the same account for years, in spite of my request to change accounts (the team was great). Now that I have moved teams, most of those concerns were addressed. This new opportunity is really just a pay bump. I'll have to think on that point some more. Appreciate the advice!
Why are you concerned about burning bridges?
Because I've very recently been moved onto a new team and I know they specifically moved me to 1. Ensure I continue to have a job throughout covid and 2. To set me up for the supervisor promotion. I guess I'm not comfortable with the idea of leaving a team I just joined? Even though I've been with the company for quite a while.
(cont'd) and I recently moved onto a new account to move towards the promotion to supervisor, working on an auto brand. I've been offered a $10k raise from the new agency, but not sure if it's worth moving as I'd also potentially be burning some bridges. Given covid, not sure if it's feasible to ask for a match from the current company (not that I won't ask). What are your thoughts on how I should proceed?
Good point on the title change, I hadn't thought about that. Honestly, I don't know where I want to be in about 5 years from now, but probably not in agency land... I'm still trying to figure that part out. You're right though that if I do take the offer, it would be mostly for the pay bump. Things to think about. Appreciate the advice!
