Take the opportunity and work abroad in a new market

likesmart

Yes 🙌🏻. This has done so much for my personal and career growth

smart

Go for the MBA. Don't get discouraged by a couple MBA candidates who were annoying interns make you think your work experience was of higher value. That said, not going for the MBA and stumbling into my first travel project ultimately led to moving around internationally so not getting the MBA has led to other cool life events

likesmart

If already middle management - you can do an executive MBA. You get totally different learning experience from that one. I think I learned more from my co-students than from professors

Invest early and consistently. Kick myself that I didn’t just buy some ETFs when I first started working 15 years ago.

Also, don’t stay at a single company your entire career. Even if you boomerang, it’s great to get varied experiences. I’m in mgmt consulting and wish I would have moved around more.

Don’t ever leave something for later! Especially important stuff! You want to do an MBA or Masters , do it NOW, because NOW is the perfect time, you want to work abroad do it NOW,
I have so many regrets on missing on opportunities that could have been game changing in my career with the excuse of bad timing.

uplifting

I would have started up earlier

My dad who lives in Asia just announced that he had a medical issue. I’m starting to enter the age where I’m going to take care of him financially. It’s a $2,000 hospital bill which in the US is nothing compared to what it represents there (which he can’t afford). He’s going to be fine! Just wanted to share with this group as many of you can understand what it feels like to support your parents when they’re old, not the other way around. I feel so blessed I can help him. 🙏🏽

This is a question about friendships. Two friends got into a really bad fight this past weekend. They have each asked me to hang out this weekend. What do I do? I don’t want to have to choose sides. One is a friend I’ve known a little longer and has been a good friend and so she would feel betrayed and angry if she knew I were still friends with her now-enemy. The other I’ve known less longer, but we seem more compatible. Advice??

How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

I love my SO. We’ve been together for nearly a decade and are talking marriage. I know being with him though will require living far from my family. I love my family and dread the thought of being far from them. My SO has been transparent about wanting to return to his home country. I don’t want to lose him but I also dread being far from my family. What’s the right call here? Fwiw he’s lived in my home country for about a decade now but has been able to visit his pretty easily (cont)

It’s been 3 years since I (27F) moved to Seattle and still don’t have a solid social circle. Not necessarily a big group… I’m talking 3-4 friends who are easy going and not flakey/ hard to make plans with.

Idk if it’s due to Covid, Seattle freeze, a combination of the two or other factors. Any transplants out there who are NOT the outdoorsy type and feel the same? And if so, how did you get past it?
