Advice: what's more valuable today? Pmp, six sigma or pmi certification?

PMP (which is a PMI certification 😑) if you have the Years of experience. The exam itself is a breeze if you actually do PMO work; otherwise I hear it's a bitch.

If you're in the federal space, definitely PMP. It's usually written as a requirement into a lot of contracts. If you're commercial, probably six sigma.

like

I can do basic Python, VBA and SQL scripting (also googling for answers). Can confirm, client/manager lose their s***

like

I've heard that these certifications are good to get 100k jobs, but not much more. So basically if you are already at a state higher, then no need. I will say though when I see someone with a PMP and they are trying to do something non PMO, I run far away

Auto update spreadsheets, decks, and docs as needed, for starters. For instance, a friend in PMO was having to update 100+ team members schedules individually because they weren't allowed to use Google docs (or any other cloud based spreadsheet). I helped her write a program so anytime she received a schedule from a member, she would run the program and python would scan the doc, pull the information and place it in the proper column regardless of the formatting. Cut the time it took her to send her weekly calendar out by about 80%.

Six sigma is an art the youngsters don't get like me. I knew I should have paid attention to my mother whenever she spoke about it!

like

No... but listing programming languages implies, among many other things, analytical and problem solving skills. Additionally, with a language like Python, you can automate a ton of the bullshit PMO work and impress the F out of a client/manager

like

But honestly you can get really creative depending on the tasks you have. Python can be used to automate just about anything done on a computer.

Good to know d2 thanks!

What PMO can you automate with Python?

My biggest mistake was accepting a promotion to manager, it made me realize that I'm not very good at managing people. Should I ask if I can go back to my old role?

Hi Everyone,
Any suggestions on networking in the private finance sector?
I recently transitioned from public to private sector finance to be more well-rounded and I’m having a hard time connecting with people in the space. I work for a fund admin in the digital asset space for HF & PE/VC firms and I noticed how much “bro culture” seems to impact the industry. Networking is hard enough working from home but I know how important it is to make those connections.

Has anyone considered opening a franchise? I would love to transition from law to business but have zero experience and am thinking a franchise may be the best option. I wouldn’t have as much control but it would provide a business plan and how to to get out there and get started. Curious if anyone else has considered. I doubt I’ll do it this year during the pandemic but want to start exploring this as an option.

How would you rate your ratios for work, play, and rest?

My life's mostly been 85% work/serious stuff (includes academia), 10% rest, and 5% play.

I've only started to learn to rest more this year and learning to accept lower productivity (was part of the hustle culture).

Q: How do I learn the concept of play? Didn't have that in my childhood growing up. All serious, no fun. Has anyone transitioned successfully?

I feel like a boring, old lady 😔😒

What is your definition of play?

Happy Friday! Has anyone made the switch from HR Generalist to payroll/benefits specialist? Wondering if you missed being involved in hiring, onboarding, employee relations. These are the things that are super stressful for me right now (dept. of 1) but also what I somewhat enjoy. I’m newer to the benefits space but very interested in it.
