1 when you’re early in your career and haven’t had the lifestyle creep yet!
👆🏾as a junior, take the awesome work, build a book, and cash in a few years from now.
as a jr, for sure take the best name that gets you the best work, I started as an intern then jr at 72 and that's carried my career for the past 5 years. also how will client side get you huge brands in your book? also the fact that its client side could hurt you this early in your career if you want agency jobs down the road.
☝️Exactly. I don’t give a f*** who’s in your book if the work sucks.
Don't chase the money. It will come. You'll be underpaid half of your career and overpaid the other half. Which half it depends on your book. Chase ideas. Great ideas.
Take the agency that will get you the best work for your book. I went for the paycheck at a shitty agency early on in my career and struggled to get into good agencies to build my book. If you gotta pick up freelance gigs, weekend work or a side hustle, do it. You will regret passing up a great agency early on. And if you plan on staying in advertising, don’t go client side. Having a huge brand in your book at a Jr level really doesn’t matter if you try to go agency side soon after. In fact, more often than not, it’ll hurt you unless it’s a creatively led brand like Nike. For example, if you’re brand side at McDonalds, you’re gonna be making shit work, but if you go to Weiden who works on McDs, you have a better chance of contributing to good work and having a great agency in your book.
really well and the work is fine, 3. The middle ground agency that is 100% willing to move now and the work sucks, or 4. Going client side and having HUGE brands in my book. I’m leaning towards 1, but I’m not sure what’s best for my career / being able to afford food consistently.
TMW you’ve sold out to advertising and still wondering if you’ve sold out enough.
