Financial Advisors

After getting laid off 2 weeks ago, I fired off about 20 resumes to different places. I have not received any feedback at all. Any ideas how to get past the computer and in front of someone?

2 weeks is nothing to be concerned about. Your search will probably take at least 6-8 months to secure a job. Use LinkedIn to gather as much intelligence as possible: target companies, contacts, common connections, jobs. Don’t forget about LI jobs portal. I always set my privacy settings to view people’s profiles anonymously. You want to be stealthy and not let everyone know you’re looking at their profile. Until you want to strategically let someone know you’re peeping them, then allow in preferences. You need paid/premium accounts with LI, Glassdoor, Indeed. Get out to networking events and fundraisers

Print your resume on really nice high quality paper along with a cover letter on your own personalized letterhead. Track down people you want to work for and send them a certified UPS envelope with your stuff. It will break through all the online bullshit clutter and at least show you know how to get stuff done. It worked for me.

Reach out on linked. Try alumni, ask for career advice. Offer to buy lunch/coffee. Do not ask for a job, but advice on what they would do

Job seekers should order personal “networking” business cards to hand out at events. Name, phone, email, LinkedIn personal web url, professional title

How do you incorporate agile when clients have a fixed deliverable/milestone driven SOW? For example, you say you’re going to build a product as part of your pitch to win the project. But if user testing and feedback requires you to change that product (via iterative/testing methodology), clients someone’s have a problem understanding that. How do you mitigate it?

Overall, this SB was just like many SBs, nothing truly remarkable happened. Nothing that moves the industry forward happened. No innovation happened. Some fun was had but the game was best. Onward!

What are the comfiest slide sandals you own? I tried the adidas slides with the spikey footbed but those usually irritate my feet unless I’m wearing socks. Looking for a similar style but with a comfy foodbed. Also if there’s an option with arch support that would be awesome bc I’m flat footed so I wear orthotics with my gym shoes. Thanks ladies!!
