It really depends on the agency and the type of clients they have. Some people had luck right away and others it took over a year. I’d recommend looking outside the agency world - companies like CVS or Grubhub are hiring like crazy (and will continue to) and many of them work with agencies so you could leverage your previous agency experience to go to the client side. Also, check out hospitals, government agencies, universities, apps (gaming or dating etc.) media outlets (avoid niche ones like ESPN or travel that likely were impacted by all this but check out anything from NBC to Twitter) all of those businesses do need strategists/advertisers/marketers/social media/creative etc. It’s helpful to pull together your interests too and then find companies in that area - say you love beauty/makeup - look at Sephora corporate and see if they have any openings for what you’re looking for. More and more companies that start to hire will be hiring for remote positions after all of this, so keep that in mind too. Don’t let location get in your way, if it’s a good fit, it shouldn’t matter to the ones hiring. I hope this was helpful! Good luck!
Agencies are late to rehire after recessions generally.

Some are hiring now.
Pharma is hiring.
Some are hiring now. Keep pushing.
Back in the Great Recession, my offer for an entry level role came after 15 months. Hoping it doesn’t take as long this time around for folks looking. I agree that type of agency and clients on roster will dictate needs—CPG (food, home goods), digital media/entertainment, gaming, tech brands faring better at the moment.
This is infinitely different than the recession. This will be a wholesale rethink.
