Alright fam. Let’s get a chain started. A lot of us are facing the possibility of remote school for the rest of the year. I’d like to begin a thread of ideas of projects that are rigorous and flexible

Commonlit is an excellent resource for this! All grade leveling is done. I also like No Red Ink for self-paced work. I can only attest to the grammar stuff cuz I use the freebie version, but it’s good. Kids aren’t crazy about it in the moment, but they all admit it helps them.

I am HUGE common lit girl. I like quill over no red ink; it works better for my students.

What I’m more so thinking about is designing a learning module that focuses more on exploration and discovery. Something to do with narratives specifically for me, but anything really. We’re making history with this pandemic. How can it be made into a unit?

(Btw, I don’t expect you or anyone to have an answer, just putting my thought process out there 😊)

I'm in!

I’ve been using noredink.com for grammar and writing; premium is free for now

Help me ask for a raise in my upcoming performance review? In sum, my company’s HQ is in Texas and I feel I’m being paid a Texas wage when I live in Los Angeles (the role is remote). We do have a San Francisco office and I want to ask my boss to match me what staff are making there. As that’s more comparable. Based off of Glassdoor, my salary matches Texas’s exactly and SF has the same role at 10k more. Should I show him the Glassdoor page? Don’t want to come off too strong. Please advise

For GCM 4, would there be permanent wfh or a hybrid model? If hybrid how many days in a month?
Could anyone please help me regarding the same.

While most teachers are protected by teacher unions, I feel my voice hasn’t been heard at all with my concerns of going back to school next week. Our diocese has decided on full return 5 days/ week for all 42 schools despite a recent increase in COVID in our communities. Every other school that I know of in my state is either choosing remote learning to start the year or a hybrid approach, yet that was not an option for us. Are other Catholic schools I. The same boat? Stay safe!

I’m thinking about moving up to a high school English position from 8th grade English. Mainly I’m looking for a change. Any thoughts on the differences I’d be facing?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?
