Yes yes and yes
Every. Single. Day. Wondering why I made it through organic chem 1 and 2 and didn’t finish out the pre-nursing track.
Same!! I did the whole chemistry degree and still didn’t stay in a STEM field 🤦🏼♀️
I am a 1998 grad and have hated it for 15 years.
This….does not bode well for my future lol.
2019 grad still in shock whenever I see senior associates who have somehow made in several years in this job without taking a toaster bath.
Current plan is to lateral this year then lateral one more time in a couple of years and leave as a 5th/6th year when the in-house jobs pay enough to to cover the expensive habits I have built to compensate for this terrible job.
Lol what you don’t like it exactly OP? The hours or something else? Are you in big law? Just curious …
Yes, 2019 grad wondering wth I’m doing
Yes, 2019 grad in litigation. Wonder if I would have been happier if I hadn’t gone to law school and just worked a non-corporate “regular” job
A4, yes, straight through.
2019 grad and I absolutely hate it. Been thinking i could’ve done just a HR or Operations role in a regular “corporate” job and be happy making ~$70-80k. That’s honestly just enough to enjoy my life and attain my goals.
2019 grad in my second associate role, totally different practice areas, and think the same thing all the time
Insurance defense to family law. My biggest problem has been feeling like I have a lack of support. I joined my current firm based on promises of extensive training and I’ve been totally disappointed in how it’s played out. Feel like it’s my fault for not asking more questions in the interview process but it’s a bummer feeling like I’m in the same position as my last role, which from the bat I knew I’d be flying solo a lot
2019 grad doing M&A. Part of me wants to quit and try teaching high school instead - I have a cousin who is high up at a private school and I’d make $~80k which is a significant pay cut obviously but I can’t imagine it’d be as stressful.
Not for a private school. I’d be more qualified than some of the actual teachers there.
2018 grad, about to quit second law job. Not sure what I’m going to do long term but I’ve decided I’d rather work at my hometown smoothie shop than go back to practicing law.
I don’t remember writing this… but damn if this isn’t me… 😂
2018 grad here. Couldn’t agree more. I’m About 6 months into a new practice group and am starting to wonder wtf to do with my life. Seriously considering leaving the law for sales or something. My brother in law is in sales at a tech company and makes more than I do as a 3rd year on the cravath scale.
You could do legal headhunting/recruiting - that’s always my exit plan lol
2012 grad....bills and shit make it impossible to find a way out. Took 6 years to make decent money. Still have loans. Work 60 hours a week. This profession is a sham. High pay for some, long hours fir most regardless of pay. Schools that do nothing but paint a rosey picture and don't prepare you for practice, it what different areas entail. No other profession trains and educates new members in such a dysfunctional way. It is the most backwards profession and most resistant to change.
2013 grad here and SAME. I always say the legal profession has the best PR, because it's the ONLY professional degree I know of where you can take out copious amount of debt to go to a school that doesn't teach you how to do the thing you're going to do when you leave. LOL
I'm starting a new job in house next week, so I'm PRAYING this is it.
2018 grad. Looking everyday for new jobs in different fields. I can’t do this long term. Just wish I had known that before I took out all the debt.
Same I was literally supposed to be a yoga teacher but not I can’t afford it until I pay off debt and restart lol
Oh fully whole heartedly regret it and will be starting over by paying off my loans and figuring out what I want to do. Worked so hard for piles of endless work. But I couldnt have known and think I’m here for a reason
I do wonder how much the pandemic has influenced new attorneys attitudes for our work. I definitely never imagined I’d be working from home and appearing in court via zoom. I think wfh exacerbates a lot of the stress of being a first year
2018 grad, passed the bar the second time. I’m literally planning my escape as we speak. I figured out a year in I didn’t want to do this.
100% me
Yes I agree
Anyone here interested in working with me at my headhunting group?
We only hire ex-biglaw. Ideal candidates are ‘19 class and senior, those who maintain friendships at a high level, and people who value helping their friends and colleagues.
I can confidentially tell you about what all this entails, including quality of life and income expectations. Hmu key@keychoicerec.com
It’s not quite a requirement—I’ve just found that having a network of friends/colleagues from your ex-biglaw job will end up producing more income for you. Happy to discuss in any event.
I can’t DM yet bc new to this platform, but shoot me an email if inclined.
Even if it doesn’t work out, our philosophy is to take on friends and clients for life.
