I’d say it depends on how you want to approach it. If you are all about sales and are comfortable on commission I would go somewhere like Ed Jones or one of the wire houses. If you aren’t comfortable selling and only want to stick on the advice side of things, I’d check out Vanguard, local banks or one of the brokerages.

FYI, you need 6,000 hours of experience as an adviser, or 4,000 as an apprentice, to get your CFP, so that’s not possible when just starting out.

What's your goal, your ideal job? Do you want to be a financial adviser with your own book of business? Do you want to work in a bank, for a fund company, a wirehouse?
Why do you want to be in the business? How did you make that decision?
Have you talked with anyone in the business yet? Do you know anyone in the business? How long have you lived where you're living, and what networks do you participate in?
What's your background? Are you fresh out of college? If os, what was your major?
Where have you worked and what have you done? Have you been in sales?
What's your financial situation? Can you support yourself for a while if you were to go into a commission-only situation?
That information would help us to guide you.
I’ve an accounting/financial analysis background and working for 10+ years. I saw some jobs at places like Ed Jones offering initial salary then gradual phasing into commission and wondering if that’s a good idea. I’ve never done sales but I’m good at teaching. My ideal job is more of advisory than sales. I’ve worked in public accounting in the past, dealt with clients and assisted with advisory. I’m looking into this because of the autonomy and flexibility. I’m very good at managing money and see this as a way to help others not as financially savvy. My network is more of the professional crowd not high net worth but high income.
