I have a love-hate relationship with DU.

1. Understand that nervousness is your body making sure you’re alert during this stressful time. I still deal with it during every presentation.
2. You’re not meant to be the #1 expert in the world on this topic. But, you probably know more about the topic than most the people in the room. Remember your knowledge is valuable.
3. Always try to have someone senior in the room to punt questions too if you don’t have the answers, or take it offline and say you’ll get the answer to the question later.
4. Slow down. Like, almost molasses slow. You sound more confident and it gives you more time to think.
5. Eat a banana before a stressful meeting. Idk if it’s placebo or not, but I’ve read musicians and other performers eat a banana because there is something in a banana that calms you down. Even if it’s placebo, it works for me lol.
6. Limit your caffeine intake prior to an important meeting.
7. Try and make it fun. You’re an associate running meetings - fantastic job!
Talk slower and louder than you think is normal. It’s going to feel weird but it will sound normal. Don’t forget to breath.
Take a deep breath before you speak, prepare a script and rehearse it before hand if you can, I’ve also heard chewing gum right before you present helps alleviate nervousness by distracting your brain (b/c it is primarily focused on chewing gum rather than nervously anticipating a presentation). Just be sure to ditch the gum before you speak.
Thanks C1
Get beta blockers. Propanolol has saved my consulting career. I have a physiological problem and now it’s solved.
