How do I get more involved in team room conversations? Any practical tips? I have good comebacks in my head just have trouble voicing them

Start the conversations first. Usually the news, tv shows are good for that. “Have you seen that Zuckerberg testimony yesterday? Senators had no idea what is going on” etc. You don’t have to respond wittingly, just say “huh why do you think that?” etc. Most people like the sound of their own voice, and will think you’re a great conversationalist if you listen and ask open/ended questions.

same problem here but what I've noticed is that you will likely have to interrupt people at times when it comes time to jump in. some people are so long winded and don't realize it. or you may be in a group where everyone jumps in immediately after someone else or as soon as their finishing a thought so there aren't many natural pauses. you can try to be polite about it by saying something like, "can I ask a question about that?" or "can I stop you there?" or "can I quickly comment on that?"

I used to have this issue. As topics were being brought up, I think through what I want to contribute and try to find an opportunity to plug it in. You just have to force yourself to do it unfortunately until you get used to the rhythm of conversations and jumping in. Drop a burner if you want some practice!

Ugh, same.

Always come prepared with 3 questions about them. It usually gets the ball rolling

I need some advice from advisors who have brought other “Junior” Advisors on. What is a fair split? Currently I have passed on my smaller clients to them, as well as providing consistent leads for them to call and meet with. The individual is working to build their own book of business, but up to now doesn’t have much production. They have only been in the business for about 2 years. I also provide an office and everything that comes with that, and admin assistance. Thanks in advance!

My hands are shaking!! I just got off a call with my toxic manager who is clearly not happy I am being poached for another division. I tried to hold firm as he attempted to 20 question me, who was it, who wants me, what division, how did they find out about me? And of course the gaslighting of “why didn’t you come to me I could have helped or made introductions”. Clearly everything is about him. How have you handled such situations? What could I have done better with my abusive manager?

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

Looking to get a bit of insight on breaking into tech working as an executive assistant after working for BigLaw for 20+ years.

I've been applying to tech companies for executive assistant positions - in particular, remote work positions - and I have yet to get a nibble.

I'm extremely tech savvy and have a lot of initiative but I am afraid that these companies are put off by how long I've been working assuming that I am a middle-aged woman that is not able to go with the flow.
