Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

Expect around $160-170 with signing bonus around $20K and some options
That I’m not sure, I believe you can request some or all of your bonus to be paid in RSUs. The more you opt for, the longer the vest time. I had a colleague transfer from SF up to Microsoft HQ in Seattle, he opted to have his $20K signing bonus in RSUs with a graded vest period. Could start selling his shares after 2 years
That’s great intel. By options, I assume you mean restricted stock options (RSUs). How many should I expect, $40,000 per year?
What if you are let go before 2 years?
Typically if you’re let go without cause or laid off your RSUs vest immediately. With cause you lose all unvested portions.

General question - why would you take RSUs over cash? Assuming you get the same nominal amount, seems you’d want the liquidity + optionality that cash provides.
I can see a scenario where they give you more if you take RSUs, but lock you up with the vesting period (not sure if that’s what they actually do).
@BCG1 - correct. You typically get more in RSUs then cash. Stock in general ensures the company’s success is aligned with yours.
My experience was primarily working with c-suite and a level down but also RSUs are a bit beneficial from a mechanics perspective: when you’re granted RSU you’re not actually given a share of stock. You just get one that matches the performance 1:1. It’s just easier to account for from corporate perspective
Thanks - so the main difference sounds like you get more with RSUs, but are tied up longer and obviously at risk with company performance
