I interviewed with them during recruiting in my LLM program. It was really vague and not clear what exactly a new associate would be doing, but definitely seemed heavy on tax compliance (tax return preparation). I am a CPA/JD so I was interested in the fact that many of the partners have the same background, but ultimately I didn’t get a good feeling from my interview and didn’t proceed further. I entirely agree that if you’re looking at public accounting as a JD, stick to Big 4. The client base and the tax technical issues you’ll see will be much more interesting.
BDO is hiring for Specialized Tax Services Transfer Pricing practice. JD would bring you in as Sr Associate with no experience. The practice is comprised of economists and lawyers.
I would aim for big 4 experience. Your growth would be limited at such a small firm.
Will do. Thank you.
I interned with Andersen and had a really good experience. Everyone I worked with there was super nice and friendly. I didn’t go back because they don’t pay JDs anything more (at least at the office I interned at) than people with regular undergrads whereas JDs at big4 get a decent pay bump. The partner was super straightforward in the interview about that though which i did appreciate. They did seem pretty flexible with what you want to do, but I do think there’s a lot of compliance no matter what, especially at the start of your career. Had I stayed there I think I would’ve tried to do estate planning which they do seem to do a lot of. Take this all with a grain of salt though because all I know about the firm is from an online internship during covid. Oh and I don’t really think they do much if any m&a or international but, again, not totally sure
