Any MBB here that have exited into Amazon? What is the shift in culture like (i.e. is it as hierarchical? Is the WLB any better?)

Context: Considering a BD position at AZN, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

The range is too broad and culture is driven by manager fiefdoms. I have friends doing 35 and 80 hrs a week at Amazon.

Ok. I guessed as much, given how large the firm is but this is helpful thanks :)

I have heard it’s easy to switch teams though and your existing manager can’t block it for long.

Went the other way around. Worked much less at Amzn (~50 hour weeks with 60-65 spikes a few weeks/year). So much better for me personally, hours also much less intense. Had free time in evenings to pursue hobbies.

Culture gives you a lot of ownership and ability to make things happen. Love that part. Talent level varys widely though and is overall lower vs bcg…good in that its easier to do well if you’re good bad in the sense that you have to work with different skill/talent levels (but also is good skill to have that you don’t get much of in MBB).

Will vary a lot by group though…but on average probably much easier vs bcg.

I gave interview in Amazon and cleared all the rounds , then went on hold and still on hold due to hiring freeze in that departement. HR does respond and update me when reached out.

Interesting thing which happened here is iam cracking each every product based interviews now after my tough preparation for Amazon and getting higher packages than what Amazon would give. So whatever happens , happens for good. Cheers Amazon
