I did. Moved to CO stayed for slmostc4 years and hated it but the experience and company name on my resume was invaluable and enabled me to go whereever I wanted. Stay for one to two years and go.
Yeah valid
It's too late now, but never move to a new city/state w/o several visits. Yes, I know easier said than done. I had a friend try to convince me to move to her state. I've visited a few times, but this person has now ghosted me! I still might move in a few years because I do like the area, but I want to move for me and not someone else. Remember this: when you move, you have to be able to be your own best friend (i.e,, enjoy solitude) because you may not be able to find/make friends and fit in right away.
Agreed big lesson
Give it some time - explore the areas etc. What area did you move it?
True, in Houston you have to bring a sweater with you in summer because the AC is always blasting. However, in the last few years, that's not been as true. Places are either trying to save on the electric bill or the grid is failing us.
This summer has actually been very mild. Last summer had us wondering why we still live here, and my husband and I were both born here.
I did. I’m still there, but I do regret 1. Moving to this state and 2. Accepting a job with this company.
I don’t have any advice, but I can relate.
I feel
Why would you move just because your friend convinced you? As soon as you moved, your friend said ✌🏽. That’s a pretty effed up friend.
I got a good job but lalso he been telling me for a bit its good and once i moved he ended up going back to his home and so yeah... got effed but he is a childhood friend and i thought i could trust but guess not
I changed continents, countries, cities. Place where I thought I would hate the most turned out to be the best. Based on this and people I know (and I know a lot of people who moved around) it boils down to community; meaning: finding people you like to spend time with. I would strongly suggest looking to connect with people and if after a year you don’t like it move back to where you feel you belong. Loneliness will affect your mental health in a long run.
Thats a very good point appreciate the advice
We moved from a cold weather climate to a very warm one thirty years ago. We knew not a single person that we could hang with. We did move in the winter so we had that euphoria of no winter but that ended after four months.
It takes time but we met a lot of people who liked to bike and got in with that group. We made friends at work, built a house and even still it was a long time before we felt settled. It takes time and perseverance. We made another move within the same state and that helped a lot because the new city reminded us of our old home town but just had better weather.
FWIW, I lived in Houston for 9 months and loved it but it was a short term assignment and knew it wasn’t forever. Your situation is different but if you can make it until summer ends it will get a lot better.
Thats fair but tbh im here on my own and i regret being onnmynown i just tbh want to go home and i dont think thats changing plus i want to work remotely. If things chanhe and i like itnhere that is great but i doubt it. Now i am just tryna think about how i can move back lol
I did. But I lived there (Portland) for three years anyway. I traveled a lot for work so it wasn’t so bad but I did end up moving back east.
Yeah i dont like where im at im trying but i just cannot adjust to this place i think i miss my family more than i thought too
i moved to NYC from the west coast and it was just not my vibe
Wow nice man lmk if u hiring in the future haha make my way back to the west lul
As someone who moved to Houston 12 years ago, I have lived in the Energy Corridor, Sugar Land, Katy and now Downtown. We too like to be outside so we spend tons of time at Memorial Park. Have you been to the park? Have you thought of joining a walking, biking, running group? It really blows your friend ditched you, but I did not know anyone when I moved here and now love it. Please give it sometime, you will find your place. PS, move inside the Loop!
Ill have to try it out lets see
Welcome to Texas
It do be what it be
If you hate the state, remore work isn't going to resolve your issues. Try to find a similar position where you're from & move back.
Wdym remote work wont solve the issue? I like the work not the state haha
