If technical is your thing and you hate sales, in house counsel all the way and it is a no brainer.
If you only want to work on technical, join a Big4 national office.
Back in a practice office, making director does not require a substantial amount of selling if you team up with a partner that has a robust client portfolio. S/he will feed you work and have you manger certain accounts.
Thank you, I am hesitant to leave big4 b/c I hv great relationships and enjoy the work (currently a first yr mgr with not too much client interaction at the moment). Do you hv any thoughts on director roles at big4s? Is it a lot easier to make than it is to make partner for those who don’t want to sell? Also any thoughts on salary at F100? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info on those roles
I do not, but I do know even at the SM level sales is really important in PA. I worked in industry for a number of years and can tell you that that is the only place where you can legitimately get a 100% technical only type of environment. You don’t even have to deal with engagement letters and the billable hour there!
In house has politics too. You can’t really avoid this.
