As a SM at a mid-tier firm (so not big 4 but still have very complex clients) I would ask questions about the clients you’ve worked on - size, hours, technical matters, experiences managing staff, etc. I came to a mid-tier from a small firm after almost a decade and transitioning to the large clients and hours was a big adjustment. No regrets, but you definitely are held to high expectations and longer hours at bigger firms, so I’d ask questions to make sure it’s a good fit for both sides.
Currently in a similar position. Applied to PwC and they offered me an experienced position instead. Just by going through the interview process it was clear they have very high expectations of seniors that are coming from smaller firms then they would if they promoted internally.
This is common too and sometimes the smart thing to do for people coming from small firms. It allows time to get acclimated to new clients, processes, procedures, software, etc. before taking on the senior role. I sometimes worry about seniors getting promoted too early when they will be working directly with partners, who often have no patience and sometimes unrealistic expectations.
Make sure your resume details what industries you worked in and what you’ve accomplished or had exposure to. don’t have some generic bullets in there. HR and the partners and managers are fully aware of what an auditor or tax senior is expected to do.
Wondering the same thing. Do you know what kind of technical questions they will ask for a Tax Senior level at Big4?
Depends on LoS. For M&A, I was drilled on various code sections
