I too did the hike down and up in 1 day, but would NEVER recommend it, EVER! My boyfriend and I did it in 5hrs 54 minutes. Arguably our hardest hike to date. D2's description is spot on, and we actually stayed at the Red Feather Lodge, which is a 10 minute drive to the Visitor Center. We paid $35 total, I believe, for the entrance fee, which included parking for car. Enjoy!
Not in excellent shape so definitely not going to hike the whole thing lol!
So I don’t need to make a reservation in advance? I can just drive up that day and pay the entrance fee?
If you've never been to the Grand Canyon and especially if coming from Phoenix stick to the South Rim. There is more to see than the North Rim. Also the transportation provided by buses is excellent so I recommend just parking your car and riding the buses from point to point. There are some points which are not even accessible by Personal Vehicle. There is a Donkey caravan that will take you all the way to the bottom and back again which is awesome. However, it is several hours long and you will need to be in decent shape to hang on the entire time. Certainly easier than hiking to the bottom yourself but still requires some level of physical fitness. If you want to hike but not go all the way to the bottom there are several trails which have look out points and rest stops. You can determine how far you want to go and then turn around and come back. Keep in mind the golden rule of the Canyon "Down is optional, Up is mandatory"
The buses inside the park are operated by the park service. They aren't a tour company. Your entrance fee is your ticket to Ride.
Driving from Phoenix up to the Grand Canyon, be sure to stop in Sedona
For sure! Thank you 🙏🏾

Wow - that was quite an experience! Thank you so much for sharing!
D2: You were crazy attempting to hike all the way down and back again in 1 day. That is nuts man. Absolutely nuts. No one try and replicate that unless you are in fantastic shape and equally crazy.
I did the down and up hike in a day on my birthday and practically fell asleep in my dinner plate that night. It’s an ass kicker. But beautiful. Flagstaff is a great town to stop in, hotel at Little America is awesome
Hahaha this will be me in a few days! Thanks for the tips. Hopefully I don’t fall asleep during my birthday dinner 😂
Lower antelope canyon. Zion National Park. Horseshoe Bend.
Zion wasn’t on my list - will add it now. Thank you!
Sedona is way better
Definitely adding this to my list. Thank you!
It was one of the best hikes I’ve ever done. The hardest by far. But what an amazing experience. If you can train for it, it’s totally worth it!
Pwc1 - that’s an amazing time! I can’t even imagine! Congrats!
Thank you D2! Looking forward to it 💃🏾
I drove up to Antelope from Phoenix one weekend. It was awesome. I’d definitely recommend it
Nice! Did you use a specific tour company once you got there?
