Being paid in title only is BS, especially if you are being billed back to the client as a whatever your new title is, and you’re not seeing the commensurate dough.
There is a big systemic problem at Ogilvy that is caused by wpp draining off profits to pay Martin Sorrell and a few other owners. Without reinvestment, the business has done well on momentum but has now begun to fall behind competition, from Accenture to Google. Sniping at each other is beside the point. We still have some talented folks left, but Ogilvy’s prospects for the next three years don’t look good without massive investment in talent, from front end developers to ux designers to content creators, which isn’t likely to happen.
they’ve been doing this BS for years.
they also play favorites like no one else - a select few always seemed to get taken care of.
You mean Martin S or The Martin agency that we lose pitches to? #Lidl
@O&M4 nobody is offering talent promoitions without raises as a way to “right size” anything. It’s because there’s no money, and Ogilvy commonly makes future promises that can never be fulfilled on. And then the good ones leave. It’s as simple as that. It has nothing to do with right sizing anything. That’s what the annual layoffs are for
Speaking of right sizing. I’m surprised you made it through the last round of layoffs. You sound like a real sharp one
Longstanding O&M practice - only wait to move the needle is to get a competing offer.
All is fair as long as Martin gets his millions
@O&M4 wtf are you talking about. If that’s your perspective, you’re clearly not in a managerial position making promotion nor raise decisions
Amazing cause I’ve been told they don’t want to give promotions without raises so I’ve been waiting a year + for both
We’re being told that if we get offers we should just take them because they aren’t allowed to counter.
Yeah I think they’re encouraging people to quit so they don’t have to fire more of us. It’s so depressing. Doesn’t help that the work is nothing to brag about and we haven’t won a pitch in ages.
Thanks for the article, Client Lead 1. I’m sure it happens beyond the promotion process as well. Probably not wrong to assume that they are making pretty big profits off of their underpaid female employees as well. In that case, I’m surprised they aren’t hiring more women.
Brutal truth: its because we have some very very shitty talent. We are forced to right size by offering talent a promotion without a raise. Or a raise without promotion. All so we can try to GRT appropriately talented people into the right roles
Ogilvy Chicago continues to lose heavy hitters. Several more in the last week. They need to do something to follow thru on promises made to people.
Yep, this has happened over and over in the creative dept. 🚬
Lol. It sounds like @md1 lives in a dream world. Not everyone is talented. Welcome to reality ya putz.
OM4 this is why they give promotions without raises. http://www.adnews.com.au/opinion/ageism-in-advertising-as-much-about-cost-as-perception
I got a 4K raise and a title change. The only way I got a raise in the past was from another job offer. Definitely ready to leave.
I got promoted in November and am still waiting on my raise...
4K? Why didn’t you take the new offer?
