WFH is great fun when you are the only one working from home and are not actually restricted to "home" (can work from a coffee shop, or from anywhere else, for that matter). If you are WFH and so is your spouse + two children remote-learning, stuck in a small space with no other options, it's hell for everyone.
I cannot wait for it to end.
Yes, totally agreed, maybe the theme should be that we need schools and childcare to be open FT again. Then I can assess whether or not WFH is ideal!
3 days office, 2 from home sounds ideal going forward
Pro
Agree! This is my plan.

Just moved to a perm remote role that will eventually have customer facing travel maybe ~20% of the time. Now my family and I can live anywhere and spend more time together. And since I don’t live near anyone on my team they can’t accidentally see me on the golf course

Actually got a pay raise and the role was remote before COVID. But thanks!
Dear me, no! Please allow me to go to an office or on-site eventually. I can’t be without face to face interaction forever.
I live in a 1br apartment with my SO - we wouldn’t have chosen this setup if we had planned on working remotely indefinitely. Personally I’ve been going into the office pretty consistently as soon as it was reopened, and I much prefer having a dedicated space to do work and be productive.
My stance would likely be different if I lived in the burbs and had a dedicated office just for me.

I loathe WFH and will not spend a single second doing it beyond what I have to

That’s about right, D3
The problem with WFH is the transactional nature of every communication. I live alone so the only moment I speak with people is because there is a meeting with a set agenda.
I joined consulting for the team room and the “it’s hard but we’re all in it together” WFH feels like you have only half, or a quarter of the value proposition

Very well-stated. I feel very similarly, and I also live alone, so I’ve had a very similar experience.
I miss the face to face, but not the office politics or commute for sure! I don’t want offices to go away completely, but would like the idea of going to them be for something that can’t (or the team doesn’t want) be done remotely.
Agree A1. Don’t need total remote but also don’t need strict days/times. Hybrid and flexible would be perfect
Chuckled at the 2nd point about the director 😆
The directors will not notice if u leave. They are too busy dealing with their own anxiety. 🤣
I’m excited for the post covid nirvana where companies realize people can be productive working from home and there is a mix of in office working and WFH

Your office sucks. I used to roll in at 10am and leave at 3:30
Rising Star
Tech consulting. But shared an office with MCs
I would love to stay WFH! So many pros and very little cons

I’m loving WFH! I’ve done it before and I feel lucky to have rediscovered what I’ve been missing. My plan is to go in to the office (eventually) when there’s a value add to me being in person for meetings and the like, but continue working remotely for desk days. There’s zero need for me to commute in only to sit at a desk by myself toiling away on a spreadsheet all day, and then commute home. I figure I’ll average 3 days in and 2 days out each week, which would be a nice balance.
It has helped immensely with mental and physical health - now that I can work & workout with a 10 second walk in between
You hit the nail on the head OP
Chief
I’ve been working from home for 4 years and probably will for the rest of my life
And don’t forget the big one, no more commutes. Yup I hope this wfh never ends!
