Anyone have any insight into any of the Non-Big 4, private equity/investment management tax service lines? Looking at places like BDO, GT, Crowe, etc (Top 20). My understanding is that all the B4 groups are all equally toxic, so contemplating the switch.

Looking to get any info possible about WLB, types of engagements (e.g. compliance vs consulting), size of clients, compensation, or any other reason why it might make sense to make the switch from B4.

Pass on GT, it's a sinking ship. 95% of my starting class of seniors have left. I jumped to PwC from GT and ironically my WLB got much better. At GT if you have even two minutes of free time, they will force you to help out on some other office's engagement.

Yeah it's definitely a problem. Idk what level you are but it's even worse if you're going in as a senior because they have this thing called the Talent Exchange Program where none of the staff are coded to a specific line and can be shared among teams. Which means you'll be fighting with other tax lines for your own staff's hours and they also don't learn jack about your type of engagement from their other clients. And if you ask for staff they give you some rando for 5hrs for 2 weeks who doesnt know anything.

Having worked in 2 big 4 PE/IM tax practices, I don’t see how you can get around the WLB issue in our sector w/o going in house to a PE shop. The tiered structure by nature gets you busy early and keeps you busy all year. Typically rest in the late fall/winter and start over in Jan

Agreed, but perhaps the clients at the national firms have less complexity and/or work on a lot of consulting, since they don’t have the same potential for independence restrictions on the various transactions that they might work on.

I'm at RSM and have had an overall good experience in their PE/FS practice. It's still public hours but I've found if you're under the right partner your highs during busy season are 60 as opposed to the 80+ you might get at big 4. Feel free to dm me if you want any more info

My partner of 5 years ended our relationship last night. I’m shattered and feel absolutely sick, and I know the healing isn’t going to be easy. We were on the verge of an engagement and I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him.

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

I recently joined Swiss Re at 30lpa, pretty good manager and work culture. Got a hike of 10% in 3 months without me asking for it. But got an offer from another company which I was interviewing for before joining here and they are offering a base of 45lpa. Now I am unsure how I convey this to my manager coz I want to stay here but at the same time I am salivating over this new offer and wish I get similar numbers here. Is it worth raising a discussion? If yes what would be a subtle way to do so?
