Honestly, what I did was go to google an type in professional resumes. Sounds crazy I know, but; if you know a little about formatting in Microsoft word just take what you see from others and build it as you see fit. You'll really just want 2 pages or 1 page if you don't have a lot of experience or other qualifying data.
This is my first time using glassdoor, but I guess if you PM me I can show you mine an I can try an help you out.
Active duty Navy, I recently went through my TAPP classes so their resume builder stuff is kinda fresh for me.
Also, do not be afraid of a good resume writing company that you pay for. They are professionals that can tailor your resume for a salary range, specific job, etc. Think of it like this, you could pay ~300 to gain 20k+ in annual pay, that’s a good ROI. Plus they can de-militarize your resume if you find a well rated company near a military base.
Had a friend get hired on with me at a contractor for 80k with a hire our heroes resume, took that resume to a professional service and they tailored it, he ended up getting a 120k director job using that resume because of how they wrote it.
Hire for hero’s website, which is free for military. Also, the Navy has fleet and family support center that have folks who are skilled in resume writing, another free service.
2nd that for Hire for Heroes. Someone called me, talked to me, looked over my resume, and gave me back a better one, all in 48 hours.
Hire Heroes USA is great. You can also go to your local SFL-TAP personnel.
Hello, One good resource if you are in the U.S. and have access to a military base is the Transition Assistance Program office on post. Usually they might be around your Army Community Service people (different offices, but they should be able to tell you where to go).
If you are off post, a key resource can be the American Job Center (nearly 2,400 AJC's funded by the U.S. Department of Labor are located throughout the U.S. As a veteran, you can receive priority service. They have experienced career counselors on staff that can work with you on building a resume, general career exploration, and job searching. Additionally, they give classes on intevewing and other skills to get a job and have facilities to help with gaining a job (computers with internet so you can write resumes and search for jobs, telephones, fax mancines, etc.). These are open to the public on a self-service basis. To find the nearest one to you, just search for American Job Center and it is on the CareerOneStop (click on the "Find Local Help" tab on top of the COS webpage).
I hope you all the success in finding a future career!
