Not an answer to your question but wanted to say I feel the same way as you. Big dream of mine but I've been working on a novel which I'm hoping to publish someday. For now, public accounting for me lol
Coach
I’ve seen peers transition from tax into CFO and M&A roles. More accounting and finance related. I had a friend quit after three years and went back to school and is now a teacher (well, principal now). Had another go back to school she’s now a nurse. My wife started in public, got her MBA and is now in sales/marketing. In the examples I cited, they all had to go back to school. Depending on what you want to do (creative is pretty broad), you might not need to go back.
I guess the advice (unsolicited or not):
1. What do you want out of life? Out of a career?
2. What are you really interested in? Sports, cooking, wine? Talk to people who do what you are interested in and ask them about their journey. Ask them if there are other people you can talk to. Other certifications you need to pursue.
3. If you’re planning to pivot, be prepared for what could be a pay cut. I don’t know your situation, but it could happen.
4. Maybe a mental reset. Need to pivot jobs or roles? Maybe a new team? Again, don’t know your specific set of facts.
Good luck, and take care of yourself. I tell people again and again, the only person who can look out for yourself is you.
