Advice from a recruiter:
Don't. We're getting laid off all over the place. Many of my recruiter friends are out of work and it's one of the least recession proof jobs. Companies stop hiring and we are the first to go. 9/11 - Laid off, Stock Market Crash - Laid off, COVID - Laid off -
The last company I worked for just laid off 50% of their recruiters.
If you're good in Sales, maybe Sales training - I can think of a ton of sales people I know who would benefit from better training.
I’ve been 8 years in Sales now…48 P&C licenses but the department has been canned and we were sent to call center for Underwriting. I’ve recently learned about Tech Sales but am clueless as to how to pursue it. Advice anyone?
Take it from a nobody that knows nothing, I feel like this job market has to be a hard time to be a recruiter in many ways.
Well, I can see that. You're probably right that it wouldn't be an easy time to make that transition.
I have always thought about trying recruiting. I’m just not sure I could take the hit in pay to start.
Same, that's what keeps me from it as well.
I have done both positions. Recruiting right now is a nightmare but not as bad as getting kicked in the teeth with rejection every day. If you don’t have recruiting experience it’ll be very difficult to find a position willing to pay what you are likely making in sales.
I think about jumping ship daily and returning to recruiting, but I always remember that this job was a step up from recruitment. Thinking about going back makes me feel like Id be taking a step back.
What are the reasons that make you want to jump ship every day? That’s how I feel as well. And I’m not afraid of change.
I'm talking to recruiters, just to be safe. not leaving unless it's an amazing opportunity though...but I do like to keep my options open!
Recruiters are the first to get let go when a company downsizes. You have to be really good at saving money because you’ll be out of work as some point, and that’s a guarantee.
I’m thinking of going back to nursing. RN on the road for home health pays good. I don’t care for working in an office because of the bullies. I suggest looking for remote positions that pay well. There’s a lot of them on linked in or indeed. If I had the time to go back to school it would be engineer IT. Six figures.
Recruiting in this climate? Not a chance. Don’t think it’s worth the risk.
Im 5 years in thinking about jumping to tech, as I have a background there, skills, and experience
Trying to jump up. From AE to sales manager.
