As an audit manager who doesn’t have an interest going to industry, what are the best options to make a change? (I.e. CMASS, FDD, or other areas of consulting). And with the current state of the economy seeming to indicate a recession is coming, how should that effect these potential options?

Too late for FDD

It’ll be a hard to move from Audit to FDD as a Manager, but not unheard of. Subjectively, I believe it’s one of the better exits from Audit. Given the current economy, it will be difficult to move from Audit to any Consulting LOS - I’d wait and see how things look this Summer (some believe we’ll start to rebound then, but more realistically, we’ll rebound next year).

CMAAS is your best bet, consulting and FDD are not likely to take audit managers.

I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
