As I become a Manager, I started losing my spontaneity and easygoingness at work. I used to be known as a very fun, people person. Now, I feel too uptight and people feel rather uncomfortable approaching me for casual, open exchanges. Help!

Try ripping the juul on your team calls to show that you’re just like the analysts. Instant respekt

The increase of responsibility has definitely affected you ( as I believe it does to most individuals).

More normal than not. Hate to see it.

It sounds like you have solid self-awareness, which is great! You can't force trust. I'd start by opening yourself up to candid feedback from your team members, and gradually work towards more casual interactions.

You can also build more human touches into standard cadences - we always start status with a quick prompt (fave thing you watched / read recently, something you're looking forward to as things normalize / become more safe, etc.) and end up learning more about each other / find shared interests.

I have also become a lot more about communicating with my team informally with no expectation for engagement on things I'm learning about, just to share thoughts. Sometimes people engage, sometimes they don't, but I hope they get to know a bit more about my mindset and feel like we don't always have to talk about the tasks at hand.

A director in another unit wants to meet me to “continue a conversation we started last year”. He is referring to the time I had asked him if there were openings on his team. That was over a year ago. I am not too happy where I am right now ( I stayed where I was). I also don’t know if he really has an opportunity or if this is just some corporate circle jerk where my current director is trying to “smoke me out”. I don’t speak poorly of my team/work. How would you approach this conversation?

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.
