Combining all of the above together will also get you into scientology.
Know someone there
Go to vcu. That’s it.
Like @CW2 said, in order to be considered for a creative role there, you must’ve had done any of the following:
1: Had gone to VCU Brandcenter
2: Won a slew of gold pencils — on top of being a VCU Brandcenter grad.
3: Won a titanium lion — on top of being a VCU Brandcenter grad.
Dan has a secret password you gotta know. Don’t ask me, I don’t know it
I'm not above joining a religious cult for the chance to work at W+K...
Email Lauren
It’s not about who you know there, it’s about who knows you
Do something besides advertising. Like be creator outside of this industry.
Also got an interview by a simple email. Never went to ad school.
@CW2 I know. W+K used to believe in the idea of “Hire Wrong.” To take chances on creatives and see how they think differently to the task. And it worked. But soon, they slowly started to avoid “wrong.” It started with only picking up VCU interns, then it became hiring people with VCU degrees, and so forth. Maybe 10-15% of the creative department aren’t VCU alum.
And I’m not talking smack on VCU. I’m just saying they (W+K) left the model of taking risks on creatives who thought differently. Because they believed extraordinary results required a bit of risk from ordinary means.
I got an interview by emailing them. I'm not from ad school.
What @W+K2 isn’t telling us is that he was probably working at Anomaly/BFG/Droga/72 before going to W+K.
I knew a guy who worked on a pig farm before going to Wieden
I know people there from MAS, so VCU thing not entirely true...just sayin'
Does that mean they don’t hire any MAS people?
They usually hire through referrals.
Melanie Myers is global head of recruitment. Send her an email. You certainly don’t need to have attended ad school.
Not from ad school, just kept sending the recruiter my work every time I made something. After two months of that I was able to get an interview.
@cw2 - Based on your post, I wonder if the barrier to getting a job at W+K might have been your grasp of grammar rather than which school you attended.
