United doesn’t have complimentary upgrades on international flights - you have to use plus points to try and “buy” an upgrade. Hence the reason you were n not “put on the list”.
You were flying in points- and you can’t even use plus points for an upgrade on points redemption- need to book the cabin you wanted on points.
TLDR: you weren’t eligible for an upgrade and there was nothing those United employees could have done…
Absolutely no way United would have given you compensation. Platinum is a dime a dozen. They really don't care about you at this status level and the agents you communicated with gave you wrong info. The rules are on their website. You didn't qualify. I got downgraded once on a paid fare and it took more than a month to get "compensated" which equaled the difference in airfare between seat I paid for and seat I actually received. I had to file a compliant with the BBB to escalate the issue and United treated this as they were being generous by giving me an ETC rather than a cash refund.
This entitled post is so good given op’s fundamental misunderstanding of UA’s loyalty program. 😂
People like this make me not want to start a business. Like you can have a clearly published policy and morons will just abuse it, kick and scream, treat my employees like Shit trying to abuse the system.
Sorry kiddo, nothing abt your unremarkable status entitles you to a several thousand $ upgrade.
Alright you dirty dogs… just to clarify, if you certain international economy fairs with points you ARE eligible for upgrade to business. This was confirmed by multiple reps at United (via phone, online help desk, and in the feedback workflow).
They acknowledged it was an issue on their behalf but aren’t giving compensation

I agree with SM1, unless when you say you flew on points, you meant you booked saver economy XN and waitlisted for IN but then you were not on the waitlist.
Otherwise you need to use your PlusPoints or apply Mileage Upgrade Award to be put on the waitlist. Complimentary Premier Upgrades only apply on domestic flights, excluding premium transcon.
Also, always take a grain of salt of what help desk says and double-check/HUCA
Thank you in advance friends
I don’t think we would be friends.

I had a very similar experience with United recently and they did the same thing and wouldn’t give me any compensation 🥲 I think maybe calling the status phone line is supposed to be more successful but I gave up
Thank you - might give it a shot over the weekend… was heartbroken being so close to Polaris but yet so far away 😂
Didn't united change their policy such that there ate no more status upgrades to Polaris business?
You will only get upgraded on domestic tickets and short haul international (aka - Mexico) if booked with points.
