BCG is diversifying in many directions (Gamma, DV, Platinion, Brighthouse just to name a few) because it is so difficult to make billions with blue sky strategy (small teams, short projects, etc.). My guess would be 20-50% could be classified as something close to blue sky strategy. With ongoing growth in the new business areas this number will likely decrease further. But that doesnât mean the other stuff we do isnât cool;-)
Lol, you're cute. I don't work for BCG but am sure you're going to be in for a rude awakening. Better to know now though. Unsolicited advice: work on your talk track for when they ask why you want to switch firms.
I think what matters more is how good you are. Even if we are stretched thin, internal labor market for pure strategy study is competatitve. Building and growing your network with the partners who secure those work will be the key. Well, getting the offer maybe even more important at this point đ
I donât work at BCG but I donât think youâll find 70%+ of your work being blue sky strategy unless you go to a specialty boutique
Agree with Mck1. I find the same issue at our firm. I think you have your answer OP. More opportunities than your current firm, but you still have to fight for it. In conclusion, odds are better at BCG. I would also not focus my "why BCG" answer on this area if that's your plan. Goodluck!
Iâve been here a little more than a year and 9 of 14 have been strategy projects. Nothing is clean blank slate strategy because that never makes sense. But yes like open to explore. Strategy projects end with execution plan but not actual implementation. I did like the one implementation project more in one respect that consultants have more client interaction whereas strategy can be like sitting in a team and only leadership presenting to c level
Guys come on I know theyâre not doing 100% Strategy relax. Itâs def more than where I am now. Just asking the question so I know what to expect
All the big firms are moving toward a more even split between strategy and ops...do some research before you go into your interview and come up with a better answer for âwhy BCG"
This is really helpful insight. Thanks all
