Bite that bullet and ask for modification once the client likes you and catches feelings

Bench means you don’t have a lot of leverage to ask for anything. The only thing you can do is find another billable role that has the travel schedule that you like. Enjoy the frequent flyer miles.
Welcome to consulting
Are you serious? If you’re not willing/ able to travel almost every week this might not be the right job for you.
Travel every week was recently the norm. Did you not expect to travel more than 1x month when you joined?
Best thing you can do is take this and see if it gets more flexible later on as the work progresses and you prove yourself. Even then don’t count on the travel being less than advertised.
You have zero leverage if you’re on the bench. Good likelihood it will be extremely career limiting if you push back or refuse this project. There are lots of people just as good as you who have no problem traveling and will be extremely happy to take an eight month project.
Bro was so hurt by this post

You are benched and you want to put conditions when you are getting staffed? Not a good move if you want to stay employed
You’re complaining about every two weeks?
What would you do if you were out on Monday at the crack of dawn and back on Thursday night every week?
You don’t have to travel when you’re unemployed.
stay for a weekend if there’s no flexibility to not travel
You won’t get much sympathy from anyone who’s been doing this since before COVID. That means the partners and Senior Managers. Every other week is very manageable and 4 hours isn’t going to destroy your life (especially if you’re not worried about flight connections or long drives in a rental car).
You need to find another project or blow them out of the water and ask for a change to the travel arrangements after a couple months.
I traveled ~twice a month for 2+ years 2023-2025 and I’ll never do it again
First, take your head out of your ass. Next, start booking your travel. After that, look into an attitude transplant.
Wow, you sound fun!
lol..this can’t be serious
Maybe this person can’t travel at this frequency because they may have a family member to take care of, so I can understand why they’re hesitant
Kind of doubt that because people usually mention things like that in the original post. Also not sure how much 1x vs 2x per month buys you if you’re dealing with something like a sick parent/ spouse/ kid.
If there is a family issue impacting ability to travel they need to be working with PPMD they have relationships with, staffing, and HR etc for realistic accommodations and/or take time off to deal with the issue.
If the issue is something generic like they have kids then they need to figure out how to make it work or find a job with less travel.
Two times a month is quite literally the dream
If it’s two weeks in a row, alt. travel or staying for the weekend.
Do a status challenge and rack up the points for an airline or hotel.
Try to make the best of the work travel
Somebody that doesn’t want to go 2 weeks a month likely means they have family commitments at home - so adding alt travel or staying the weekend is the exact opposite of what they’re looking for.
OP - I think if you can try and find ways to make the travel a bit easier, it’s not the worst. Try going out Monday night instead of Monday morning and getting home at a reasonable time Thursday.
I turned down a project recently because of travel and then spent the next week super stressed. It definitely puts you on ‘the list’ for layoffs.
Count the points, get the airline status, eat some good meals on the client and try to enjoy it. If you like the partner, it’s a chance to do good work, build some goodwill, and have more options for future projects. 8 months isn’t that long and like others have said, if the client likes you, you can probably adjust your travel schedule a bit. I traveled almost every week pre-covid and it was taxing, but I do miss the travel sometimes.
Are you Gen z?!!
Used to travel every week even with young kids. Sometimes had to leave Sunday night and stay till Friday. Get over it.
Sure that was great for you and your family
