But my mom had a major health issue and I'm planning to travel back to India to support her as I'm a single child. I'm working in one of the top organisation in Germany with a base of 90k euro and looking for good opportunities in India. SLC. It's great weather, pretty mild although it can get hot in the summer but it's a dry heat so not that overwhelming. COL is v reasonable and you could easily get a place that's in a great neighborhood but close commute to the airport. Excellent outdoor activities and fitness opps. I literally rock/ice climb, mountain and road bike after work when I'm remote with ease. Food scene is good and getting better. Only downside is weird liquor laws but pretty easy to get used to.
SLC is a fun city, but the weather is extreme. Both summer and winter can kill you.
Charlotte is awesome and has great weather compared to the Northeast (too cold) and south (too humid). Also has a major airline hub. West coast is awesome but absolutely miserable for travel. Anything west of Chicago is a hard trip considering most clients are east of Chicago. Seems like west coast companies are a bit newer and have less technical debt and more inclined to do things on their own. Not sure if this is true for other consulting companies but many of our clients are not in the West.
I second EY5 on the diversity thing. The minorities here are almost all in the service industry, and there are very few young black professionals in/around uptown. I still love it here, but it's notable when I see the one other black person at a brewery or whatever the weekend activity may be. So while the demographics say it's diverse, the city is very segregated and the diversity doesn't seem to carry through socioeconomically.
Atlanta
I literally just bought a townhome 2 days ago in north Druid hills. Excited to move there.
NYC
Houston!
No don’t move to Houston... we are in full capacity
San Diego
NYC
Denver is a good option. Chicago (suburb) is another good choice, though the weather is not optimal but will meet all your other requirements. Also look at Sacramento and San Diego in CA.
I grew up in Sacramento and think it’s a very underrated city. It’s growing a lot, centrally located to mountains, the bay, wine regions. Tons to do outdoors and a great up and coming food scene. COL is still very good for CA. Only cons are that direct flights out of SMF to any major city are limited, especially if going east. Also, not many clients here other than state of CA gov’t. If you have clients in SF, there really is no easy commute from Sac.
For your asks? Raleigh (RTP in NC in general) is the only correct answer
I live in Chapel Hill and lived in NYC before that. I like RDU more then NY airports. I can get to clients with less effort then through LGA or JFK. Also, whether is good, cost of living is low, and a schools are excellent.
Austin
Nashville. Did you see the NFL draft? Fun city!
Traffic is light in Nashville? 15 minutes from downtown and feel like you are in the country? These are all lies.
I love the west coast as it is the best weather on the planet, but places with “a city feel” are rather expensive. Love Seattle for outdoors (ocean+mountains+year round camping weather) and San Diego for PERFECT weather with a pretty cool culture.
Every else in US is seasonal.
Charleston SC
Lots of smaller commuter flights to anywhere, to include London. Benefits of the tourism .
Atl (coming from someone who lives in CA)
Wow, why do you say that? I've never been to Atlanta. The biggest issue with LA for me you would be cost of living.
San Diego
Boulder, CO
Denver, San Diego
