McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

I lived there for years - what are you there for/what do you want to do or be near?

For surfing, go to La Jolla, not Coronado (I love Coronado and will be at that Marriott next week, but it's no good for surfing). La Jolla is a lovely place as long as you have money, and can spend to eat/shop in La Jolla. Beautiful beaches and a very nice town - you'll have a good time there. This photo just south of Seal Rock at Cuvier Park - lots of surfing here:

My two favorites are the US Grant which is in San Diego proper, or the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe if you're looking a bit north.
No. It’s right downtown.

Downtown:
US Grant
Hotel Republic
The Guild
Near beaches:
Coronado Island Marriott
Westin and Sheraton Carlsbad (near Lego Land)
Old Style Country Living:
The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe (it’s far from everything but has its own charm)
Us grant is a great old hotel... But the homeless outside 24/7 is a real issue. I'd say the Sheraton Carlsbad (or the Westin literally next door) ...eat at Miguel's and the Windmill Food Hall while you are there. And don't miss the safari Park in Escondido...
If your hearts aren't set on San Diego...~ An hour north is the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel...fantastic spot
I used to live in San Diego. I would pick Coronado or La Jolla for the locations. La Jolla is closer to surfing, but Coronado is great to walk and bike around, also a golf course is right there. But honestly, San Diego is no surfer’s paradise.
