I’m pregnant but will likely be breastfeeding by the time I am eligible to get it. I’ve been doing a lot of reading because there are similar vaccines that have set some precedents (although nothing exact). What they are pretty confident about is how to vaccine works and how divorced that seems to be from things like the breast milk process. Reading things like this (from the academy of breastfeeding medicine but there are lots of similar sources) has made me feel pretty confident in getting it:
During lactation, it is unlikely that the vaccine lipid would enter the blood stream and reach breast tissue. If it does, it is even less likely that either the intact nanoparticle or mRNA transfer into milk. In the unlikely event that mRNA is present in milk, it would be expected to be digested by the child and would be unlikely to have any biological effects
This is helpful. Thanks!
100% getting it as soon as it’s offered to me. Currently pregnant but not likely to get it before I’m due. I’d get it while pregnant or BFing. Dr. Marta Perez has some great content on YT about it and got her vaccine this week as a BFing OBGYN.
Thank you! I’ll look her up.
I’m breastfeeding and no I won’t be getting it. I’m not anti-vax (taking baby to get his shots is pretty much the only time we even leave the house) but won’t be getting it until it’s been out and studied at least a year whether I’m breastfeeding or not.
For anyone planning to get the vaccine, you can also sign up for this registry through the University of Washington: https://redcap.iths.org/surveys/?s=87JFRCL8R8
They plan to study outcomes for TTC, pregnant, and BF people. If you’re going to get it regardless, you may as well contribute to science while you’re at it. My hope is that it will encourage hesitant people to get the vaccine.
I’m using it as my motivation to wean my toddler 😂 “Wean before vaccine” is my mantra. But seriously, I would/will get vaccine if I’m still breastfeeding by then.
100% getting it. Also have a friend who is a pregnant nurse and she just got it.
I have a friend who is breastfeeding and an oncologist. She took the vaccine. It’s such a personal decision but wanted to provide the additional validation FWIW. Good luck!
I am not getting it. I am a highly sensitive person and have had reactions to medications, foods, etc. I skipped flu shots through all of my pregnancies. I can reduce my risk for contracting Covid though lifestyle choices, and do not believe the benefits outweigh the risks for me. The vaccine is obviously new and we have extremely limited data on longer-term side effects. For reference, my husband is a physician working with Covid patients and he is getting the vaccine. For him, the risk/benefit ratio is different.
Would get it without a second thought.
Breastfeeding, getting it when I can. My 7 month pregnant nurse friend got it. My doctor and lactation consultant have said there’s little research but that what they do know from other vaccines and studies it’s safe and the risk outweighs getting Covid and passing it to the baby and said they would get it if they were in my shoes.
I’ll be breastfed by the time I’m eligible this summer and will be getting in then. Lots of studies going on now with women breastfeeding as the larger population has access and they have a larger sample size.
Getting it as soon as I can
Not going to get it while breastfeeding. Frankly, I’m not even sure I want to get it even if I’m not breastfeeding. I know I’m the lone soldier here in this group of responses...but I’m just completely weary of a new vaccine that hasn’t been studied for a few years. I worry about what long-term effects could be.
