I don’t think LA is like the east coast in this respect. Like you, we moved to an area with very good public schools (Santa Clarita west of the 5) our kids went to Kindercare and it was fine. People from my kids high schools classes went to great colleges. Many to UCs including Cal and UCLA, MIT, Ivys etc. I don’t think an expensive preschool is going to make a difference as to whether your child ends up at an Ivy or not.
We plan on going with a Montessori
Absolutely no reason to go to a really expensive preschool. No matter what anyone tells you there is no secret, premium experience that is going to better prepare your preschooler.
There are a lot of reasonably priced preschools with nice community, nice families and capable staff that will keep your kids safe and nurture the things that are important at that age (being respectful of others, sharing, communicating, etc). Especially if going to public elementary find where kids go that will be in school with your kids in kindergarten.
