Layoff going on in Synechron ?
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Fire = you fucked up majorly and there's either an instance that is documented or a history of seriously poor performance issues. I only know one person who was fired and it was over compliance/ethics issue.
Counsel out = it's become evident over the past few years that the firm is not for you and it's not a good fit. Maybe you have been getting mediocre ratings, are difficult to staff because of whatever preference, whatever. It's more of a passive aggressive thing.
Lay off = when the firm can't sell enough work and/or overhired. You'll know because dozens of your colleagues are also being let go and there will probably be multiple fishbowl posts about it
Who hires consultants ? Think about the thousands of alumni at organizations across the world . Counseled out is an attempt to keep ties with alumni . McKinsey does this better than anyone - you'll never find an alumni who speaks poorly of the Firm and that's largely due to the professional way they suggest people try something new and help them get there.
So if you get fired due to compliance/ethics issue are you flagged in the system so you can. Ever boomerang back?
You are all missing the point. Counseled out means please get out now by yourself. No bad marks on your resume and the firm doesn't pay severance or deal with gossip and low morale. Works out great for all
Agree with McK. Used to work with ex McK partner at previous firm. At one point a few people were let go. Everyone got decent severance, and he handled it very graciously.
Lol yeah after seeing the shitshow that is PwC and how they treat people, I would literally NEVER hire them if I ever find myself in the position to hire some consultants. No class at all
P1, thanks.
D1 I think that counseled our means something else at MBB. You are given severance, and also some support in determining next steps.
