Can you ever ask for a small relocation fund when relocating a 1000 miles to a new market for a freelance to full-time role? I'm guessing no.

Yes. What's the worst that can happen? They say no, that's that. They might say yes.

yes, but justify your expenses. show them how much airfare/mileage and 30 days temp housing cost.

Always ask. My last gig was a small shop that was able to give me $1K in relocation. In the past, I’ve been able to get anywhere between $1K-$5K relocation, depending on the opportunity and how far away it was. Some relocation is unconditional with no expensing, allowing the money you save during your move to be used towards other things.

like

Ask! You don't ask, you definitely don't get. I'm freelancing and need to park in a pay lot for my gig. I asked if they would contribute to the cost and to my surprise they agreed to cover the whole thing each month.

like

Yes

Small shop or large, it would likely be a write-off for them anyway.

And they shouldn’t be hiring from out of their area if they’re not prepared to help candidates move.

like

Yes. Ask.

I agree you should ask. If they say no that may suggest they aren’t as likely to convert you to full time as they say

Recently left the Big4 without a job lined up. I’m hearing all my friends talking about busy season woes and I’m so grateful to not be in that position. I keep thinking of the long hours and it’s making me not want to job hunt. I’ve been looking at industry related tax roles, and generally like accounting but am open to exploration. Is there any such role that gives good comp, great work/life balance (I don’t even wanna be near 60 hours), and overall interesting role/company?

I've got 4 years at a staffing agency after getting Masters in HRM and making a complete career change in 2018. Doing full cycle recruiting and account management. I feel I'm doing very well (in the role and with comp $57 base + commission = ~$91k last year) BUT I feel stuck!! I'm feeling undervalued and unchallenged. I think I'd love corporate recruiting/TA Specialist, etc. How do I make the jump? Should I just keep truckin??
