As someone who just left a Director of BD role at a high growth tech startup, I will caution that it’s a hard job, and probably one of the toughest roles on the GTM side. Unless you have great PMF and/or marketing, outbound is really hard right now. What used to work even a few years ago just isn’t anymore. Opp gen targets are a source of unending stress and not a lot of the glory and recognition of sales.
Would just make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into and if it’s really what you want before taking the role. I didn’t and it was a really terrible time.
Think offer sounds lower to fair, more fair if you don’t have any variable comp based on opp gen targets. Should have equity portion too though.
Take the job and figure out what’s next when the market turns up.
Were you laid off from big tech? And how much is equity?
Yes and pretty negligible. If company grows 5x might be worth 25k/yr.

Which tech company are you coming from?

Big Tech is specific enough OP. Does it matter if its Meta vs Google?
240k (going to ignore paper money) is greater than the 0 you make currently.
Sure, but I’m less worried about comparing to 0 than to what else I may be passing up by continuing to look for 3-6 months. If this isn’t great in that context, than I would prefer to keep looking.

From the narrative perspective, how will this role look in your overall story? Based on what you shared, i think its possible to spin it positively, even if you were to find a better job only a few months away.
So the only downside / risk of starting this job is that you will have less time to prep and interview for other roles, right? So your question will need to be whether the additional income you earn from this role will make up for the lost time you will face while interviewing for other, better companies.
