Any layoff expected in bny ?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Well I guess saying you left isn't completely wrong, you just didn't leave on your own accord
Your old company is legally restricted from giving some details. It’s more than likely that to avoid liability, they do not tell someone the reason for your departure. I wouldn’t ever explicitly say that you were or were not laid off, but if they ask why you left say something general like it wasn’t a good match and shift to what you’re looking for at your new company
I mean don't explicitly mention the lay off. If your asked then don't lie either. Lay offs happen, it's not your fault (hopefully), I don't think an employer would shoot you down for that.
Every application I've filled out asks for reason for leaving each job. Don't lie, as your firm probably would disclose that reason too (I'm not 100% sure about that but I think that's part of what they provide in that salary disclosure system). It's not a big deal, firms lay people off for lots of reasons, but lying will get you fired for cause.
No one cares. Don’t lie, don’t volunteer it either
No one cares is an overstatement. People do care. It different from industry because whole divisions get chopped, but even then the high performers usually get moved before the purge. No need to volunteer though. I know of folks that were planning on leaving an employer and there were cuts eminent. They volunteered to be cut though they were high performing.
Laid off? You must have been a poor performer! As the analytics of the HR industry are increasing exponentially, you will only be able to hide behind your lies for so long OP. God speed.
