Caught in round of layoffs. Hard finding fulltime, it was easier when I was younger. I’m 40 but I look 30 (lucky with good genes). Would it be crazy if I cut my resume in half and pretended to be 30?

I hear you but with dating! Just broke off a relationship and I’m 39 (and a straight woman in Chicago who doesn’t want to have kids). 🤦‍♀️

I’d always rather have a more experienced person on my team, so hopefully the right shops will see your experience as an asset. (Look client side too if you have interest.)

Sending you love Account Sup 2! I bet you’re a real catch.

I’ve trimmed older gigs off of my resume - small regional agencies prior to me getting to the “big name” spots.

I don’t think that hurts, and it gives the impression of being younger without having to lie about your age.

It’s all about your value, not your age. It’s a weak excuse to hide behind.

Well once you fill out the insurance paperwork they know...

So you want to live the plot of the TV show “Yonger” then?

uplifting

If you've won awards recently, your age shouldn't matter I would think.

funny

Cutting your resume also means cutting your experience - so you won’t get offers that line up with your level.

like

Don’t do it. You have to put your birth date and social security number when you get hired and then they have grounds to fire you.

funny

Exactly. I mean, in reality his/her age shouldn’t come up even if they wanted to lie about it. The agency isn’t supposed to ask and I can’t think of a reason I’d mention my age on an interview. By the time they’re running your social security, it’s likely you’ve got the offer anyway.

I’d take experienced talent over not. It’s rough out there for all ages at the moment, how do you know it’s related to age?

It is illegal for them to ask your age in an interview.

Time to move up. CD / GCD / CCO.

DO NOT FABRICATE. You will feel like, and look like, an asshole if you get called on it. People will then assume you lie about all sorts of other things too. Don’t do it. Just avoid giving dates wherever you don’t need to, and keep looking and acting the age you feel. I am 48 and everyone I work with is 5-20 years younger than me. They know I’m older but suspect I’m somewhere in my thirties, maybe 40 but at that age you don’t recognize 40. Young people love talking about their birthdays so you have to deflect the conversation when it comes up but you can do it without lying. If you can’t handle 40 good luck with 50, it’s headed your way like a bullet train.

Age is not an issue they say. I am having five coffees to stay up the long nights while my colleagues can live with three. There is no need to lie..

It's harder for men to hide it when balding happens. Only cure is look like a beanie wearing hipster wannabe.

Go flat cap. Fedora? Top hat!

I'm baffled at how many people are spitting out the law as to why this person should be ok. Because no one breaks the law, right? No companies at all ever favor towards a particular race, sex, age, background etc when making hiring decisions, right?🤣🤣 Some of your posts are so funny.

I do5nt think HR or anyone really looks into age during the hiring process so.you should be fine. I dont know how many places didnt know I was older then I was when it clearly states my birth date on so many documents.
