You'll get lost in the shuffle. Had a grad school friend that finally made manager after 10 years
I work at JPM and it's a pretty structured way to climb up the ladder. Compensation greater than public so people don't get caught up in titles as much. You have to earn promotions though instead of just sitting around and waiting X number of years. Also, if you're at least a senior you would be an associate at a bank not an analyst.
EY1, can I ask what you do at JPM, what your background is, and how well you are trained / expectation of technical knowledge when starting?
Controllers group(not helpful since there's legit 100s of people with different roles/functions). They expect you know technical accounting relevant to your role, but people are very willing to help and teach. I worked in FSO at EY for 4 years so I was familiar with the industry. Training is helpful and you can signup for whatever training you want that you think is relevant. All the big 4 give trainings. Most people switch roles after a few years so you keep learning. I came in as an associate.
Like any company with 200,000+ employees, it's going to be luck of the draw with your team.
I'm a second year staff, no financial accounting experience. My concern is not having the expected technical knowledge. Do you have any advice in breaking into JPM or other large banks for financial accounting work when I have a specialized tax background?
Most banks are going to want you have finished at least one year as a senior. Having your cpa is a good start as well. I don't think it's particularly difficult to get a job in middle/back office. It's easier if you have FS experience
