Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

75k sign on?!?
My thoughts exactly!
Ooh. Tough call…I came to AFS AI a year ago as a manager. 150 plus 10K sign on. I would not want to move down the chain at all, not if you are used to managing teams! If you want to code machine learning models, take it. If you want to lead teams and stop working on your code skills, then insist you be transferred to a recruiter for level 7 Manager.
That's good to hear. Technically I haven't been manager for long and I do have an interest in getting my hands dirty. I'm pushing on 6 YOE so also wanted to guage if becoming manager after a year could factor in.
UPDATE: current base up to 166k now. Partners have taken an interest in putting me on more ML initiatives. Didn't even request the bump. Suddenly feel less strong about this jump.
I think you’re here because you want confirmation that taking a step down in title for a new opportunity and career track is a right move. I would say it is, and a few $10k here and there isn’t going to make a difference at all.
Easy decision: 3 yr horizon the sign-on still beats the salary increase, and you get the experience you want.
Wouldn't say easy but my thoughts are more or less aligned. My current company is much better with bonuses/appraisals so not completely clear on pay. But experience wise it's great and after a year it's not too hard to reevaluate.
Which data science certification do you have?
Joint program UToronto/UWaterloo. Company covered it but it's relatively affordable and I still like to recycle code from there for my own engagements
On the topic of salary, younger 🐠 looking for some advice: I might get a promotion from senior analyst to consultant soon in the Applied Intelligence practice (about 2 years of experience now). What are typical salary ranges, and what would be the least you’d be willing to take?
But also what are next steps at your current company and do you want to get promoted there?
DS1 I am riding on being an experienced consultant hire that made it to the manager band already to accelerate my timeline, but time will tell.
Stay at current company
Comp and familiarity - I'm former ACN and vividly remember the small bonuses across levels
With out a record of serious delivery, or the off chance you’re a coding AND statistical AND machine learning AND mathematical guru - I’d go where your qualifications earn you the most.
Life is far too short to let employers roll you over on comp IF you have the skills.
So you for staying or going? On one hand this was the break I've always wanted and you rightly point out few places would give this opportunity. On the other you maybe mean realistically assess your skills and stay. Maybe incrementally pick up skills like I've been doing for another few years while in a supportive environment.
How many YOE? This is an extremely great offer from Accenture and my guess is you’re coming in at consultant level B or C and can get promoted in 12 to 18 months
5.5 YOE. Turned it down though. Have alot going on in my personal life and decided staying would allow me to take care of it better. Not to mention I've gotten the attention of leadership so my career prospects within may look alot better.
Funny thing is if Accenture made one last concession, I probably would've left. Maybe we'll see what happens in the future.
