Current LMM PE associate in a tier-2 city from a non-target school considering getting an MBA. My goal is to do LMM/MM PE in NYC after graduation and gain a strong network as my undergrad school has minimal alumni in PE. Have tried to lateral from my current role and it has been an uphill battle given my background. Is the cost of an MBA worth it for someone in my shoes? Only considering non-HS M7+Tuck/Yale. MBA background check: do they do detailed reviews of your essays? Like check anecdotes? Some of my verb choices likely give myself a bit more strict than I deserve. Do they call other managers?

How necessary is an extracurricular for MBA apps? I work a ton of hours and don’t have a lot of time or interest in any activity that I could reasonably put on an app. I spend the little free time I have on activities I enjoy (spending time with SO and friends, working out, Netflix, etc). Would it be really bad if I had nothing in that section on my app beyond college extracurriculars? Or should I force some activity? I have enough time before I apply to make it look legit to adcoms.
