I like my amex a lot (have the platinum) but if your only other card is discover you might want to look into the chase sapphire preferred, because discover is already not accepted everywhere and neither is amex

100%! Best card of large spend categories are food and grocery. DM me and I can refer :)

And to add, you get $10 a month in seamless credit and Uber credit - so you make back $220 annual fee!!
Check out Coinbase Visa. Just learned about it today! I was at a deli getting a sandwich and an older gentleman started to tell me about it, he said he was paying it forward lol. Anyway it’s pretty awesome, you earn crypto on purchases. Just look it up!

I have both the Discover and the Amex Gold. Love it! Easy UI, good for groceries and travel, and pretty 😅 amazing given the fee.
I canceled my Chase for the Amex Gold and love it.

Rotating 5% cash back, so not super often. The ability to do cash withdrawals at checkout (a lot of other cards don’t do this without a fee) is huge for me so I keep it
I also have discover bank as my primary fwiw, but that doesn’t really change the “stickiness” of my card
I have discover as well. Used it as my starter card to build my credit and it did wonders (still have it, as I really like it). I now have the AX platinum (no limit) and I love it. However, if your not going to use or take advantage of all the perks that comes with the card, you might as well get a regular AX, with no annual fee. As you are then just paying to have the card, but not using it to its potential. I also have the Blue everyday AX (get a 4 years ago before working my way up to the platinum). It’s no annual fee and you still get cash back. They also have the travel everyday, you get points and it’s no annual fee, but not much after that.

The platinum is a Charge Card, which is slightly different from a Credit card. The limit is a case-by-case basis. If you’re a billionaire, you may have a $500M limit. If not, it’ll be lower. But nothing is published. It needs to be paid fully each month.
your only card is discover?? what are you, 18?

It’s okay what Accenture said is irrelevant
I switched from gold to platinum and I’m going back. Don’t travel enough to justify it

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the insight here

Happy to refer you so I can get sweet points. Overall, solid card if you use seamless, Uber and eat at restaurants. Also gives access to Amex offers and the occasional $0Plan It fee
Get a chase card! It’s great
Love my AMEX gold.
AMEX is better than all of them & Discover is better than Visa or Master Card. Car Rentals are best done on a Visa & not AMEX. You need stellar credit to have an AMEX & this is not a Credit Card. AMEX Gold is a Charge Card. Airline & Hotel Bookings work best with AMEX for this reason. AMEX Rewards are also great if you travel often. Booking Car Rentals though & you’ll want to consider a Visa.
AMEX gold would be a good choice, but Discover and AMEX are both not widely accepted worldwide. You considered having Visa or Mastercard in your portfolio as well.
If you plan to travel internationally, get a card with no foreign transaction fees.

Since OP is 19 and already has Discover (likely with rotating reward categories), I highly recommend Citi Double Cash. That’s no-fee with 2% flat cashback on “any” purchase
I have both. Discover would be a great card if they had transfer partners (airlines). I just use it for the bonus categories.
