Currently have four personal credit cards and considering closing the newest one that’s the delta gold card (1 year old). For the long term, should I keep it and downgrade for the time being or cancel altogether?

Downgrade to a free version of the card and hang onto it. If you close, it’s more than likely your credit utilization % will increase, which has a negative impact on your score.

like

Never cancel or close the card! The higher the borrowing power the better the score. Just have the card and don't use it.

like

DMC1: be careful with this. It’s also important to have enough income to support the number/credit limits of the cards. If one collects too many cards with too high of limits relative to amount of income, then creditors can perceive that as potentially over extended. It’s a delicate balance.

Maybe google how it’ll impact your credit score. If it’ll hurt it then maybe just downgrade and keep like one bill on it? That’s what I did with my Amex - use it to pay my phone bill and still keep it active for my score.

I had that same card and cancelled it late last year after they announced the change in perks. It had a short term impact on my credit score but it quickly came back. I had by far the highest credit limit on it but I called up the other credit cards to increase their limit so that it covered gap of the gold card. That might have helped

Generally not good (for FICO) to cancel cards - gives the perception you can’t handle credit, and it’s good to start early and keep them open so you can show you’ve had credit established for a long time. Downgrade it to a free product, throw it in a drawer and forget about it. Maybe use it couple times a year to keep it somewhat active and that’s it.

Buy/lease now or defer to Q1-2023?

My car broke (engine seized, 10y old). I am interested in 530i ($62k price), however 3year lease is $1,000+ monthly (with $5k down). Monthly lesse payment is 50% more than bmw advertised offers (“south FL dealers are not participating in the program”)

Q to car gurus/experts- should I defer purchase/lease for 6 months? My logic, the impending recession will reduce demand and we will go back to more balanced market (lower prices with negotiation).

I read these posts and what numbers you have with FIRE. I don’t have nearly that much saved; I am paying for two kids in school (college). What is the minimal amount?

I’m not bad with money but definitely lots of room to improve overall, due to several personal factors I don’t want to list in full here (numerous unanticipated medical bills, bad boyfriends, etc.) Hence why I only have $3k in savings right now. My first mini goal is to have $5k saved by the end of December. I need motivation and words of encouragement. If I pay off my medical bills, I won’t make my goal. I have to start putting saving money first. Getting depressed about my situation.

Hello!
I'm italian, 26 yo and currently working in France as financial analyst.
Work environment is great, friendly and multicultural but I don't like the job at all.
Personal life is not so nice since I manage to see my family and gf every 30/45 days only. Colleagues have their own lives and at the end we don't hang out much.
My dilemma is:
A) going back to Italy at a lower salary with less growth opps but better personal life or
B) Switching my job here and hold on

What would you do?

Thx! :)

Advice & resources? My spouse and I are starting to make good money (ages 28 & 31, $105k & $70k) with $10k in savings (we were hit hard financially this year) and 2 car payments.

We live in a cheap apartment ($1.3k) that is sh*tty. Don’t quite have a down payment (especially not in ATX). Is it dumb to rent a house for a year at $3k/month while we save up again?

We both didn’t come from $ and are figuring out how to not be idiots 🙃 tbh we would prefer to rent forever but that feels dumb???

Hello all!

Am I correct in my understanding that:

Over a certain income ($76k as of 2021), a single person CANNOT make tax-free contributions to a traditional IRA if you have a workplace retirement plan?

In my example, I have a work 401k, and my adjusted gross income is over (or just about hovering) at the 76k limit. This means I can't make pre-tax contributions to a traditional IRA, so I should just go for a Roth?

My fiancé and I (ages 30 and 31) are about to buy a house. We would put down 10% for a 835k purchase price. Our combined income is $265k. We both have around 7-10k left in emergency funds (each) and combined about 200k for retirement. Our mortgage is $4,500 a month and we split a car payment for $800. Is this an okay financial decision or should we have bought a cheaper house/saved more?
