Itâs time for me to move on from my back office/CBS job at EY. Iâve been able to get through to recruiter and hiring manager screening round with FAANG employers and some tech companies but never beyond that. How can I differentiate myself when Iâm probably also up against our client facing colleagues in consulting. I have about 12 years experience (7 at EY doing the same thing).

Op is asking whether to come in as a manager or senior manager.
Op I would highly recommend manager unless you already have a network at Deloitte. SMs are in charge of their own staffing where managers and below get at least a little help from the firm. If youâre ready to be a specialist leader youâll crush it as a Specialist master and build a strong brand and network on the way to becoming a SL
So better to get in as SpM and not fight for SL role ?
Senior manager and specialist leader are the same level. The difference between the two is the latter is supposed to be more technically inclined than SM.
Pay is v similar. Maybe some SMs can shine some light
Both are specialist- leader vs Master so different levels.
SL = specialist leader SM= Specialist Master
SpM - Specialist Master
SM - Senior Manager
OP, which is it?
SpM vs SL is the question
