35x is the gate to hell so plan on an extra 10 mins for that. Unf I always came from Arlington so can't advise on travel from U street

like

Will take 20 mins to get to the airport

like

I’d leave at 7:10.

Flying in and out of 35X is not fun. But I still love DCA!

like

Oh interesting. Is it mainly federal work or since you are traveling I assume office doesn't determine client base?

like

7:40. 20 minutes to airport. 20 minutes for security and gate. 10 minutes for fucking up. 10 minutes for doors closing. I leave from Alexandria at 6:55 for 7:35 flights and am usually fine.

So if I leave at 7 get to security by 7:30ish? That should be fine

Thanks for the responses

Atk1, interested to know what the times were like when you weren't usually fine haha. Also didn't realize you guys had an office in DC.

Going to stl?!?

Tc1, I was indeed

Yep. DC office. I cut it close. But I'm coming from Arlington

We have both private sector and federal. DC is a fun place to live even for non-public workers.

Ya agreed. I have only been here a month or so and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Hoping to stay for a good while.

Do you have any DC local suggestions? Food, networking, going out, etc? I've gone out and eaten on U street quite a bit and 14th. Gone to AlExandria old town as well.

I am considering transitioning from being a W2 employee to a independent contractor/1099. What are some important questions I should ask before making a decision? For context, I have been with my litigation firm for just over 3 years and have been barred for 4. I am doing fine, but I dislike the job and would like to reduce my hours (and get rid of some of the non billable work I have to take on). Ideally, I would transition to a job that I love, but I’m not sure what that is yet. Cont. below.
