Go out to Vail! It is so beautiful in the summer. Lots of great hikes.
Grew up in vail and this is absolutely true. Lots of summer events that may be going on around then too like concerts. I think this is too late for the gopro games which is great if you ever have the chance. Beautiful hiking, fishing, biking etc. and you can also just take the gondola to the top of the mountain. Either way, there’s great restaurants and live music in the village
Lot of great places to visit in the mountains, but be wary of the traffic on I-70 westbound. Will basically be a standstill all Friday afternoon and Saturday. Recommend sticking around Denver metro and visiting mountain areas Sunday
Get your reservations in at 10am MT sharp on July 1st. You’re visiting at a very busy time so they will fill up fast at RMNP
Yup, figured that and will need to keep on it.
Recommendations to stay in Denver are off base IMO. Denver isn’t that special and you’re not visiting CO for the city. Stay in the mountains. Estes Park, Glenwood Springs, and Frisco are all great spots. Frisco literally looks like a mountain town out of a hallmark movie. I am slightly biased since I live in the mountains. You don’t want to spend 4 hours in the car every day to get to places that you could visit in 20 or 30 mins if you pick your hotel or Airbnb well.
The CO national parks are a great place to start. The sand dunes are great for kids, you can rent sleds to go down them. Mesa verde is beautiful but might be too far/hot. Rocky Mountain national park is quite busy in the summer and requires a reservation (get this asap). Worth the crowds for a day as it is quite stunning (the west side of the park is less busy, Grand lake is a nice town to stay in).
Thanks A1.
Estes Park is a great place to camp and REI has very reasonably priced rental gear!
That’s a good idea, thanks.
