What is ECT?
Electroconvulsive Therapy
I have had ECT twice, for six months each time. Now, I’m telling you what happened to me. I have unusual reactions to everything. ECT works. It gets rid of the depression; however, it doesn’t last forever. I got two years out of the first round. That is actually a long time. It lasts less long for most people. I became depressed and suicidal again, and I had a second round. That took away the suicidality but not the depression. The side effects, again for me, not for everybody, were bad. I now have large holes in my memory, where I have no recollection of things that I did or things that happened to me. The laying down of new memories has been damaged. Again, these side effects pertain to me not to everyone. I would recommend that you read two books: Shock by Kittie Dukakis and “How to change your mind “ by Michael Pollan. This last book is about psychedelics, but it is at the forefront of psychiatry now. I’m happy to answer any other question that you might have. But to answer the question that you posted, ECT affected my memory and therefore affected my work. Please keep in mind that I speak 7 languages. I still speak them. That wasn’t taken away, but it’s harder to memorize now post ECT

I’m in the midwest. How long before you could go back to work after the initial treatment ?
The next day, but that is primarily due to a the anesthesia
