Did you know there are only 100k CISSP’s in the U.S.? Seems low.

Seems about right actually. Most people don’t work in cyber security. And there’s plenty of people that work on cyber sec that don’t have CISSP. so yea this number seems pretty correct in the US.

Here’s the rest of the world: https://wentzwu.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/CISSP-Member-Count_20220101.pdf

Accurate, not too surprised. The CISSP is a beast to tackle and is seen as being mostly for managers.

The value, to me, is similar to a degree. It looks good on a resume but also helps with thought process and understanding the basic concepts. Anything else can be learned more easily if you understand the basic concepts, the thought process behind them, and how to research/think critically.

like

Does someone with CISSP means great people? It’s just a cert. I knew plenty of cyber security professionals/ teammates who are great without the cert.

Generally it is expected if you are in management in our field

Nobody has mentioned that there are no great professional without a cert. There are different ways to show evidence of your areas competence and having a certification is one of them.

What number seems more accurate to you?

It’ll probably get bigger as more people step into cyber. Im sure these breaches that keep happening will drive people to enter the field

Is it okay to disappear from friends & family to work on career change goals (several months)? I want to focus and not get distracted by friends & family needs to see me or attend certain things as it takes up a lot of time. If I focus for a short time, I can quickly achieve my goals to switch. I can hangout with them after all of that. What do you think?? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Fish who have been feds,

I have been stuck deciding between two offers (both in IC, but one is more program analysis -similar to consulting work but on the fed side, and actual analysis).

The program analysis offer is at a higher GS level and a more well known agency, but is not what I’m interested in.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a decision? Go with what I want to do, or go with the more well known agency and higher gs?

Currently stuck in risk but interested in Cyber. Have done one related engagement from a regulatory perspective. But a lot of posts here making me think it’s harder to break into than I expected (non-technical background). If you had a six sigma green belt / supply chain degree/exp., would you still go through the effort of going into Cyber or take easy risk money being offered / easier transition back to supply chain? 2-3 YOE and trying to decide career course, any advice highly appreciated
